About the client
Metalna Termis is a company based in Maribor that deals with thermal processing of metals (annealing, nitriding, tempering). Metal Termis has many years of experience in the thermal processing of metals and works with a wide range of customers from various industries, including automotive, machinery, food and construction industries.
The challenge
The four thermal furnaces of Metalna Termis are huge consumers of electricity needed to melt metals. When starting only one stove! consumption rises even above 1 MW, which means a significant load on the network and high costs. Therefore, the company decided to install a solar power plant on all available roofs. This will allow them to at least partially reduce the consumption of electricity from the network, thereby saving costs.
In addition, cooperation with renowned international partners, which increasingly expect active measures from their suppliers to reduce emissions and increase the share of renewable energy sources, further motivates Metalno Termis to operate sustainably. The installation of the solar power plant will thus contribute to even stronger cooperation with these partners and the achievement of common environmental objectives.
Solution
Metalna Termis has installed on the roofs of its plants a solar power plant with a nominal capacity of 156.6 kWp, equipped with Jinko Solar photovoltaic modules and Sungrow inverters. The plant will produce about 180 MWh of electricity annually, which will allow the company to achieve a self-sufficiency rate of 10%. This will lead to a reduction in annual electricity consumption and associated costs.
Benefits
The solar power plant of Metalna Termis will bring many benefits both to the environment and to the company itself. Surplus electricity will be sold to the supplier, which will accelerate the return on investment and at the same time increase the share of renewable sources in the Slovenian electricity system.
The installation of the power plant represents an important step towards the sustainable operation of the company. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions by approx. 180 tonnes per year will make an important contribution to environmental protection. In addition, the solar power plant will also bring economic benefits, as it will reduce energy costs and improve the business performance of the company in the long term.
Environmental awareness and responsibility are becoming an increasingly important factor in the operation of companies. With the construction of a solar power plant, Metalna Termis is one of the companies that actively care about the green planet and sustainable development.
Investing in a solar power plant is as beneficial for the environment as it is for the company itself. It represents an example of good practice and offers an opportunity for other companies to emulate.
With a long-term perspective, the Metalna Termis solar power plant will bring many positive effects that will affect the environment, the economy and the reputation of the company.
With the solar power plant project at Metalna Termis, we faced a difficult challenge, but we were happy to implement a solution that reflects our commitment to innovation and sustainability. A key success factor was our ability to integrate advanced photovoltaic technology with the existing working processes of Metalna Termis, which made it possible to significantly reduce electricity consumption from the grid. We are proud to have been able to contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by about 180 tons per year, for which we would have to plant about 4,500 trees that would grow for 10 years.
